No articles on mainpage

Description
When i'm not logged in and visiting the mainpage, i don't see the latest x articles although there is an article from one week ago.
Only when clicking on the categorie that contains this article, a guest sees it.

If you go to the Content Layout module in the admincp, then go 'Frontpage Layout' - is it set to display an article category that has articles in?

Category: All Categories
Permission set for guests...

Could you try purging your (TangoCMS) cache, to see if that fixes it? Some permissions may have been cached wrongly, only thing I can think of.
Would you be willing to create an account for me to login as? We can't reproduce it here

Purging doesn't work.
Sorry - can't create an account cause it's a running project with classified information - if I did, I woudl have to kill you ;P

OK that's no worries. Does adding a new category, then articles to that category make articles appear?

A new article in a new or the old category works. Moving the old to the new cateory does nothin'.

Marking as invalid, unable to reproduce this at all anywhere and very old bug running old, now unsupported version.
